Presidents Column

Jim Hall, AA8Y

The hamfest was great. Everything went very well I thought and the last I heard was that we broke even or even came out ahead a little. I had a good time and I am sure that many others did too. Many thanks to Don Wilson and his able crew.

Its time to start thinking about a new slate of officers for the election in December. If anyone is willing to run for an office please speak up, most of the jobs aren’t that hard to handle and don’t take a lot of time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jack N7ODN announced a special VE session at his home this Sunday, October 7, at 4:00 PM. This is by registration only. Two candidates have signed up. There will be a Technician Class session prior to the December 8 exam. The classes will be Nov 26, 28, 30, and December 3. Lyndel N7LT will handle publicity to the media. The exam session at the Ham Fest will begin at 2:00 PM. There will be ARRL books for sale at the Ham Fest. Jack will purchase the tapes from the VE accounts for the General Class in advance of the March 2002 VE session.

Don KC7EWZ handed out a sign up sheet for net control. He thanked all those who helped with communications at the Lewis & Clark Run. Don said the last SAR meeting was uneventful. There was no mention of planning for the new building.

NEW BUSINESS

Jim AA8Y set up radios for communications at the Fridley fire. He suggested that we think about more antennas for such events. Doug KK7VC would be happy to build a couple of antennas. A committee was appointed to determine what antennas would be appropriate.

Jeff AA7GK inquired regarding the old cabinet that previously housed the 447.700 repeater. It was decided that perhaps Neil KL7JGS had built the cabinet. Jeff will ask Neil if he wants it.

Vivian K7CUB said school would not be in session on the first Thursday of January and June. We will not be able to meet at the Sacajawea Middle School on those two dates.

HAMFEST

Don KC7EWZ led a final planning session for the Ham Fest on Saturday October 13.

The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM
